Spotlight on E. Waldo Ward Jams

Last updated 1 year ago

If you’ve ever slathered your toast with one of Polly’s Pies delectable jams, you’re already familiar with E. Waldo Ward. This family company produces all of Polly’s jams, using our own recipes and the highest quality fruits available. At our family restaurant, we love the story of E. Waldo Ward and his family farm:

  • Humble Beginnings
    E. Waldo Ward & Son was founded in 1891, when Edwin Waldo Ward, Sr. arrived in Seirra Madre, California. Ward was an importer of luxury foods, but his dream was to start his own family business producing English-style orange marmalade.

He managed to secure two orange trees of the variety necessary for producing English marmalade. These trees were native to Spain. Ward planted the two trees on his ranch and started a grove that grew to over 600 trees. After retiring from his job in 1915, Ward concentrated on perfecting his marmalade recipe and finally launched his dream company in 1918.
  • Thriving Business
Ward’s marmalades quickly became a sought-after gourmet food item. Ward jams were served in the luxury dining cars on trains and in upscale restaurants across the country. Eventually, the company expanded its food business until marmalades represented only 10% of the company’s sales. E. Waldo Ward & Son now also offers fruits syrups, fruit butters, brandied fruits, olives, and oils. Their products are delicious on their own or as quality ingredients in recipes for freshly baked goods.
  • Quality Commitment
    E. Waldo Ward’s slogan is simply “The Best,” and that is certainly reflected in the company’s commitment to using only high-quality ingredients. The jams manufactured for Polly’s Pies contain pure cane sugar, not corn syrup, and only the freshest fruit.

At Polly’s Pies family restaurant, we admire E. Waldo Ward’s quality commitment, because it’s the same way we do business. Our freshly baked pies, hamburgers, sandwiches, and other menu items are all made on-site for the best taste possible.
